Bridges Out of Poverty Workshops

OPEN M’s Bridges Out of Poverty program is based on Dr. Ruby Payne’s Framework for Understanding Poverty, and is aimed at reducing poverty in Akron. As part of the Bridges Summit County community collaboration, we have been a longstanding leader in combating poverty.

Our certified trainer facilitates workshops for professionals working in the non-profit and for-profit sectors throughout Summit County. Through Bridges Out of Poverty, professionals gain a greater understanding of poverty, and of the hidden rules that govern people’s lives, depending on their socio-economic status.

Getting Ahead Classes

OPEN M offers a safe, agenda-free environment, where people living in poverty can explore how poverty affects them. Participants reflect on and examine their lives, learn to locate resources, and work toward a more self-sufficient future. Classes are held at OPEN M and in the community. They are facilitated by our family development specialist.
